Arkan

Arkan is one of the very few offspring by Nick Skelton’s great Olympic stallion Arko III. He was bred by Marie Edgar and is out of a mare that she jumped herself by Kannan. Arkan combines his fantastic temperament with super movement and an impressive jumping ability. He is a very exciting prospect for the future.

Arkan is the full brother to the very impressive young mare Lilibet (ridden by Anne Bedford) who represented British breeding at the 2007 World Breeding Championships for Young Horses at the Zangersheide Stud in Lanaken, Belgium.

Arkan's Pedigree

Sire = Arko III (Argentinus/Beach Boy) is currently one of the top show jumpers in the World. Under the saddle of Nick Skelton his achievements are too numerous to list, but some of his more notable performances include victories in the Grand Prix’s of Estoril, Rome, Lucerne, Dubai, Calgary, Leeuwarden & Leipzig. This successful combination also took 10th place at the Olympic Games in Athens.

Arko III is sired by Argentinus who has proved himself as top-producer of international jumping horses with Anka, Air Jordan Z, Asti Spumante, Autogramm, Anastasia and Adlantus As. Mother Unika carries the first class blood of Nurzeus and Lucky Boy xx, through the stallion Beach Boy. The real power behind the success of Arko III is established in the lineage of the mother, namely mare lineage 002. This wide spread family is the base of a long list of international show jumpers: Now or Never (Piet Raymakers), Alanda (Pieter Kersten), Opium (Marcus Ehning), It’s the Business (Goeff Glazzard), Friso (Guido Dominici) and the legendary Darco. Ludo Phillipaerts and Darco took a 6th place at the World Championship in Stockholm (1990) and a 7th place at the Olympic Games in Barcelona (1992). More than 40 horses of Darco’s offspring are jumping at GP level.

Arko III has only been used lightly at stud but has sired some very impressive offspring who have produced some wonderful performances in the young horse classes. These offspring include John Whitaker & Keeley Durham’s Argento, Nick Skelton’s Arkida and Anne Bedford’s Lilibet (full sister to Arkan)

Dam Sire = Kannan is a tall rangey stallion whose competition successes include winning the Belgian Classic Circuit as a 6yr old and then going on to become the 7 year old Belgian Champion. In 2003 he won the Deauville Grand Prix and in 2004 achieved victories at Paris Bercy & Jardy. In 2005, he became French National Champion.

Kannan’s sire is the impressive dominant breeding stallion, who via his sire Furioso II and the great Gotthard is bred to perform. His dam Cementa (by the outstanding Nimmerdor) is also the mother of Gideon who is successfully competing in Holland and also Interest who was 10th in the 7 year old World championships at Lanaken and is now winning at international level.

Kannan’s best known offspring is Pikachu de Muze who was World six-year-old Champion at Lanaken 2006. Pikachu was sold at the 2006 PSI Auction for 570,000 Euros following that win and has since been purchased for Billy Twomey for whom he competes under the name of Pikap.
